Pramac Swiss SA attains the extension of its certifications - IEC 61646 and IEC 61730 - to 125Wp and obtains a new certification - IEC 61701 "Salt Mist Corrosion Testing"

Pramac Swiss SA attains the extension of its certifications - IEC 61646 and IEC 61730 - to 125Wp and obtains a new certification - IEC 61701 "Salt Mist Corrosion Testing" – for thin-film Pramac LUCE Micromorph® photovoltaic modules

Thanks to these acknowledgements, just 6 months after starting production, Pramac Swiss has already reached important objectives in terms of the output power, efficiency and quality of its panels.

Abu Dhabi, 18th January, 2010 – during the World Future Energy Summit held in Abu Dhabi, Pramac S.p.A., announced that its 100% controlled subsidiary, Pramac Swiss SA, has attained the extension of the IEC 61646 and IEC 61730 quality certifications to 125Wp1 for its thin-film modules, called Pramac LUCE Micromorph® and has also obtained a new quality certification subsequent to corrosion testing in salt-water environments (IEC 61701 “Salt Mist Corrosion Testing”), on behalf of TÜV Rheinland in Cologne, the world leader for testing and certification services.

These results, reached just six months from the start of production in the Pramac Swiss plant, is a further testimonial to the quality, power and efficiency of the photovoltaic modules manufactured by the Group. Indeed, as a demonstration of the reliability and avant-garde technology of Pramac photovoltaic models, at the end of December 2009, the Pramac Group reached yet another important milestone, marked by the production start-up of a 1 MWp photovoltaic plant, composed of 8700 Pramac LUCE Micromorph® thin-film modules, in the province of, owned by the customer ErgyCapital and completely financed through project financing.

In particular, the strict test carried out in the TÜV Rheinland laboratories in Cologne permitted Pramac to extend the product certifications – IEC 61646 and IEC 61730 – for the power output of the Pramac LUCE Micromorph® photovoltaic modules from 115WP to a stabilised power equal to 125Wp, one of the highest output powers to be reached by sector manufactures. The first photovoltaic modules were produced in the R&D pipeline of the Swiss plant in Riazzino and by summer 2010 the Pramac Group will begin full-scale production.

Simultaneously, Pramac Swiss also submitted its modules to salt environment corrosion testing - IEC 61701 “Salt Mist Corrosion Testing”– with positive results, thus certifying that Pramac manufactured modules are suited to installation in environments close to salt water bodies, without the risk of damage to the modules.

Thanks to these new certifications, Pramac Swiss photovoltaic modules will benefit of a 5 year product warranty, with an additional option for customers to extend the warranty to a full 10 years.

“I am particularly proud of the results reached to date by our subsidiary Pramac Swiss SA”, commented Paolo Campinoti, Managing Director of Pramac S.p.A. “The recent certifications obtained demonstrate not only the efficiency but also the reliability of our modules”.

“Pramac Swiss, just a few months from production start, was able to not only fill all the orders already in the portfolio, but to also respond competitively to the needs of a sector that is in constant growth, thanks to our modern plant that currently has a production capacity of approximately 1.5-2.0 MW per month. Thanks to the innovative thin-film photovoltaic module production technology by Oerlikon Solar, solar modules are manufactured at lower costs as compared to traditional manufacturing technologies for so-called “silicon wafer” modules," commented Cristian Cavazzuti, General Manager of Pramac Swiss.

Pramac S.p.A.:
Pramac S.p.A. designs, manufactures and sells electric energy generating sets worldwide and also operates in the warehouse logistics and material handling sector. The Group, guided by CEO Paolo Campinoti, is also active in the field of alternative energy sources, especially photovoltaic modules, with the company Pramac Swiss SA. The Pramac Group includes 35 across 20 countries, with on the whole over 800 employees, and it operates worldwide through six production plants, of which one in Italy (in Casole d’Elsa, Siena) and five abroad (Spain, France, China, Switzerland and the USA), controlling a distribution network composed of 26 sales branches.
